This is an in-depth comprehensive course on cupping skills and scoring according to the principles a certified Q Robusta Grader needs to have. These skills are combined with a comprehensive assessment of each individual's ability to recognize consistency in a cup of coffee along with evaluating green Robusta coffee beans. A Q Robusta Grader is a professionally trained individual who also has the ability to calibrate when tasting coffee using SCA's standards and cupping principles.
Upon completing this course, students will be able to objectively evaluate Robusta coffee based on the quality of flavor and provide feedback on nuances, faults, and flavors. In addition, students will gain a thorough understanding of how to cup Robusta coffee, assess standards and principles, including the SCA standard cupping forms.
Class content
This course consists of two corresponding parts over six days. In the first part, over 3 days, learners review assumed knowledge and theoretical principles, including the practice of all activities.
The second part is a 3-day series of exams regarding the material presented. The course includes 20 exams over 9 Modules to test the learners’ job-relevant skills including cupping protocols, olfactory and gustatory senses, green and roasted grading, organic acid identification, triangulation skills, roast sample level identification, coffee processing evaluation, and general coffee value chain knowledge.
Testing also includes recognizing and recalling CQI Flavor Standards in aqueous solutions. Those successfully completing this course will be able to objectively evaluate Robusta coffees based on cup quality and origin and provide feedback on cup nuances, defects and flavours. Participants who pass all exams earn a Q Robusta Grader certificate.
CQI’s Q Robusta Grader certificate is valid for 03 years.

The minimum class size is 6 students.
If the class has fewer than 6 students, it will no longer take place.
Q Robusta Class- Instructor Sam Choi
Sam Choi is a CQI instructor for the Q Arabica Grader and Q Robusta Grader courses.
Sam Choi is an educator and coffee expert specializing in Arabica and Fine Robusta across Southeast Asian countries.
Additionally, Sam Choi is an SCA Certified Trainer for Green Coffee, Sensory Skills, Roasting, Brewing, and Barista modules.
Furthermore, Sam Choi serves as the Head Judge for the World Coffee Roasting Championship and a Judge for the World Brewers Cup.
